Working Board Members - We are Hiring Board Members for our Working Board

The Good Life Refuge is looking for new board members. We provide a safe haven for neglected and at-risk farm animals. We also believe in the ethical treatment of all animals and practice careful and responsible stewardship of our organization and for the animals in our care. Moreover, we believe in the benefits of a plant-centric lifestyle and in strengthening and nurturing the bonds between humans and animals.

Purpose of Board of Directors: To advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of Good Life Refuge so as to support the organization’s mission and needs.

Major responsibilities of Board Members:

  • Lead and advise strategically;

  • Oversee the organization of the board of directors, officers, and committees;

  • Ensure healthy governance;

  • Assure financial stability, including adoption and oversight of the annual budget;

  • Supervise and support the executive and organization directors;

  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, impact and performance;

  • Enhance and promote the organization’s public image; and

  • Raise funds for the organization

Length of term: Three years. Terms may be renewed pending approval of the board.

Meetings and time commitment:

  • The board meets: January, February, March, April,May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December

  • The entire board organizations leadership meets annually for a planning retreat each June.

  • Committees of the board meet at various intervals based on their own needs.

  • Board members are asked to attend as many events as possible as well as all fundraising events.

Expectations of board members:

  • Attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis and special events.

  • Participate on a standing committee of the board, and serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary.

  • Help communicate and promote Good Life Refuge’s mission and programs to the community by actively recruiting volunteers, donors, and board members.

  • Become familiar with Good Life Refuge’s finances, budget, and financial/resource needs.

  • Understand the policies and procedures of Good Life Refuge.

  • Make an annual gift significant within personal budget. It is required that Board participation be 100%. Suggested amounts are a $500 cash gift or $1000 gift-in-kind. Board gifts should be pledged, along with planned payment schedule, at the beginning of each board member’s term.

  • Identify and approach potential donors and make asks for money and gifts-in-kind.

  • Participate in annual assessment.

  • Attend events and be available to assist as a volunteer when able.

 

HELPING HANDS ANIMAL VOLUNTEER - WE ARE ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS FOR THE MORNING SHIFTS (8-11 Summer, 9-12 Fall/Winter)

Would you like to get up close and personal with our goats, chickens, cows, and so many more animal residents? Yes?
Then this position might just be for you! Our Helping Hands Animal Volunteer is required to come at least once a week (3 hour shift) and we ask for a 6 months commitment. The helping hand volunteer is co-responsible for cleaning the animal residents’ housing and pastures, helping with any minor projects (such as coop assembly or tarp repair), and interacting with and loving the animals, with some opportunities to become more hands on with animal care over time.

The first step is to fill out the volunteer application and then attend our on-site orientation and training, during which we’ll take a sanctuary tour, meet the animals, and delve into the bulk of the work needed (cleaning). The purpose of this is for you to get a sense of what you can offer the sanctuary and what this opportunity can offer you.  NO experience necessary. Children under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult for their volunteer shift.


GOOGLE ADS MANAGER

The Good Life Refuge is seeking a Google Ads Manager volunteer (1-5 hours/week). Help us spread the word about our mission, engage new supporters, find new donors and volunteers. Google Ad Grants provides access to $10,000 of in-kind advertising every month for text ads. The ideal person for this position aligns with the Good Life Refuge mission and has professional experience with Google AdWords or Google Ad Grants. Please let us know if you’re interested and/or have questions.


EVENTS COORDINATOR

The Good Life Refuge is seeking an Events Coordinator (5 hours/week). The ideal person for this volunteer position aligns with the Good Life Refuge’s mission and has professional experience in planning and coordinating events. This includes creating event ideas, connecting and coordinating with vendors, setting up events on our website and other online events calendar and facilitating the events. Currently, most of our events are online due to Covid.


GRANT WRITER

With your grant writing experience and enthusiasm, you can join the team and help us meet our 2020 Goals:

  • Triple Capacity from 50 to 150 animals

  • Build an on-site medical building

  • Barn expansion and construction

  • Pasture & Fencing expansion

  • Fencing & Housing expansion for our bird residents

  • Electrical system upgrade


NON-PROFIT FUNDRAISING

With your fundraising experience and enthusiasm, you can join the team and help us meet our 2020 Goals:

ANIMAL ENCLOSURE MANAGER

Animals housed on site at the GLR facility deserve the finest and safest housing in which to thrive. Projects related to the care and improvement of the GLR physical location is directly related to our success in meeting our mission. The Animal Enclosure Manager is essential to maintaining our standards. Most activities are more project-based than shift-based.

Main Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Perform maintenance, construction and repair of animal enclosures, fences and buildings.

  • Minor plumbing and electrical work.

  • Assist with enclosure, fencing and building design concepts for both immediate and long-term needs as the GLR expands.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of and dedication to fulfilling the GLR’s mission and ethics.

  • 10+ years of experience with building, maintaining and repairing buildings and enclosures.

  • 10+ years of experience with plumbing and electrical (helpful, not necessary).

  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license


FARM ANIMAL VET CONSULTANT

Location: Most duties would be performed via phone or video call with staff at the GLR. Some on-site may be necessary.

Description:

Currently, the GLR does not have an on-site licensed Farm and/or Avian Animal Veterinarian for our 70+ animal residents. The Veterinarian Consultant provides qualified medical advice and counsel to our on-site staff at the GLR. Depending on the medical issues that arise this can be done on-site, via phone or video call. The Veterinarian Consultant helps to triage emergency medical needs at the sanctuary and helps to diagnose medical conditions along with recommending treatment options and plans. Your counsel can help to provide improved care, reduce medical costs and assist in critical decision making for optimum care of our animal residents. Additionally, it would significantly improve the outcome in life threatening emergencies when no veterinarian services are available and time is of the essence.

Requirements:

  • A Colorado Veterinary License in good standing.

  • 10+ years’ experience working with farm animals as a large animal, small animal, and/or avian specialist.

  • Comfort with and ability to develop expertise working with all species including goats, sheep, pigs, alpacas, chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese.

  • Strong skills in conventional medicine and diagnostics.
